DOMAINfest New York City Domain Name Auction

July 28th, 2010

New York CityDOMAINfest will be holding a 1-day networking event in New York City on Wednesday, August 18. The day’s agenda will include case studies of successful domain name purchases.

Other topics to be covered include utilizing affiliate marketing, recent views on internet advertising trends, and whether it is a good time to invest in geo domains. I think we know the answer to that one. That of course being a perpetual yes! :-)

A highlight of the day will be a live Moniker auction which will include several upper echelon .com domain names such as Stocks.com and Quotes.com. These are very nice domains.

I predict in the coming year(s) that we will begin to see more well-publicized specialty auctions of categories like real estate domain names and extension specific auctions for tld’s like .info, .biz, and .us. dotUS had a recent auction around July 4th of this year.

Importantly, promoting and marketing an auction well in advance of the event is the single most important factor in getting potential buyers to the table.

Totally agree. Investing in like domains will make it easier to mass develop them. For those who don’t get in the TRAFFIC NYC auction, try Moniker’s auction at the Epik.com Domain Developers Conference. http://snipurl.com/zx9o6

    I love geo domains! We’ve got CozumelIsland.com!

By far the best auction in years. Tons of quality domain names to purchase at excellent pricing. Here is my top 15.

    1) Companion.com (25,001 – 50,000) – The best domain name in the auction. Dating is big bucks and the big dating companies should be fighting for this one. I like this domain better than Partner.com.

    2) XXX.com (5MM and up) – Next to Porn.com or Teen.com this domain is the best porn name I have ever seen. I would rank it higher than Sex.com.

    3) Stocks.com (1 MM – 5 MM) - What more needs to be said.

    4) DownloadPornos.com (10,001 – 25,000) – One of the top 5 names in the auction. Not in the same category as Porn.com, Teen.com or XXX.com. Could be optimized to capitalize on search traffic ‘Download Pornos’.

    5) MoviePreview.com (10,001-25,000) – A site that builds up an audience that wants to quickly see movie previews before they view a movie.

    6) Patents.com (5MM and up) – Information, forms etc. site dominating money to be made in the patent industry.

    7) StockQuotes.com (500,000-750,000) – Great name with stocks.com this combination would be deadly.

    8) Patents.com (5MM and up) - Information, forms etc. site dominating money to be made in the patent industry.

    9) BabyAdoption(s).com (100,001-250,000) – An adoption agency. Big business.

    10) Grant.com (1MM – 5MM) – A central place where people could apply for grants.

    11) Artist.com (250,000 – 500,000) – I would create a site in which people could shop for rare art and browse new artists. Not always can people buy the art they want locally.

    12) Cable.com (1MM – 5MM) – Cable company will one day own.

    13) Raggae.com (100,000-250,000) – A site that allows users to listen for free and purchase raggae stuff on the side.

    14) Bruins.com (750-1MM) Hockey team Boston Bruins will one day own this domain name. A little over priced however. They would probably bite at 500,000.

    15) BabySitting.com (250,001-500,000) – A site that screens Babysitters worldwide and advertises that.
