Dart.biz Using the Internet’s Official Business Address

February 5th, 2010

Dart.bizI work in the healthcare industry as my primary profession. Domain names are my hobby. I was standing in the nursing station this week and noticed a company logo on a large box full of supplies. The company was Dart Container Corp. and their web address printed on each side of the cardboard box was www.Dart.biz.

Since I very much like the .biz web address, I checked out the company. They are rather large having offices and distribution centers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Argentina. In the U.S. alone,  Dart have 13 facilities spread across 11 states.

The company used to operate on DartContainer.com, but have since switched to the better domain name, Dart.biz. Dart was established in 1937 with their early roots planted in the town of Mason, Michigan. Dart specialize in food service packaging and have since become the world’s largest manufacturer of foam cups.

The Dart.biz domain name was originally registered in March of 2002. This short, memorable domain name coupled with the internet’s official business extension makes for a great company web destination.

FOX Seattle Adds .BIZ Business Directory

January 22nd, 2010

Q13fox.bizThe local FOX news TV affiliate in Seattle Washington, Q13 FOX, has created an online business directory at Q13fox.biz. The main station website is still Q13fox.com and contains the typically expected pictures and story links characteristic of most news sites.

The Q13 Fox business site (.biz) lists a number of “Biz Categories”. Each category provides a list of local companies and their contact information in the traditional online biz directory format. Local vendors can also display an ad for their products and services in the classifieds section.

Also on the Q13fox.biz website along the top is a “Biz Search” box which yields fast results if you prefer to search specifically for a company as opposed to browsing business listings. A few other links include local business coupons for discounts on services. Movies, Events, News, and Weather are additional links to round out a viewer’s choices.

o.biz.BIZ is an excellent business-oriented extension, and in this instance nicely compliments the Q13 primary news website. Based on steady growth with the .biz web address, I suspect we will see an increasing number of companies and professionals utilizing the internet’s official business domain, .BIZ.

FOX Seattle are following close on the heels of the recent launch of Overstock’s .biz website at O.BIZ.

Wall Street Journal on Business.com

December 2nd, 2009

There is a quick but interesting read on The Wall Street Journal reflecting back on the sale of Business.com for $7.5 million ten years ago. Many doubters of that time period expressed their skepticism that the purchase would be fruitful.

The Wall Street Journal piece, in retrospect, reveals that Business.com is still a core component of R.H. Donnelley (who bought Business.com for $345 million). R.H. Donnelley have declared bankruptcy in order to restructure billions in debt. One would presume that preserving and capitalizing on their online properties will be a focus moving forward.

The Business.com and Loans.com sales were instrumental in motivating many individuals to enter the domain name market … which itself has become a self-sustaining industry with year-over-year growth.

PremiumDomains.US Has Launched

Happy ManI now have my complete domain name portfolio moved to PremiumDomains.US, which is a great generic domain name I acquired years ago (a companion to PremiumDomains.biz). I always wanted to solidify my plan for expanding premium domain sales into the U.S. market.

It’s taken 10 days (or 60+ tedious hours) to learn the software, customize the site, expand its functionality, and load domains one by one into the database. Sitting, staring, and concentrating have become my new talents! And my expletive skills have been honed to a fine point. Actually, I may have developed an irreversible case of Tourette’s syndrome. :-)

There is a convenient “Buy now” link for launching a domain purchase through Escrow.com. The search functions are just right, and have been scaled down since my portfolio is way smaller than an Afternic or Sedo.

The good news is that ccTLD’s continue to reach outward and upward globally. Various blogs and forums are currently discussing what appears to be a new growth curve building for ccTLD’s. I suspect we’ll be hearing about, and seeing, much more attention given to the ccTLD market.

PremiumDomains.US will undergo upgrades and enhancements moving forward. Feel free to check out the site & offer suggestions for improvement. Have a good day!

Governments Now Opting for .BIZ

February 23rd, 2009

As an advocate of the Internet’s official .BIZ (Business) web address, I like noting positive developments with the extension. This evening I happened upon several government institutions who have done a great job building out their sites on the .BIZ web address.

arizonabiz2

The Nevada Secretary of State have acquired SecretaryofState.biz and produced a huge, beautifully designed site sporting a ton of information. Historically, local governments have opted for .us, .gov, and on occasion the .org. However, most State governments have a dedicated department which oversees the State’s Business & Procurement Division which is very “business-centric” making the .biz selection an appropriate choice.

illinoisbiz

The State of Illinois’ Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity run their site at IllinoisBiz.biz, and once again, we see a very deep site with a wealth of online information and functionality for Illinois businesses.

censusThe U.S. Census Bureau have their official website at CensusBureau.biz providing not only news about the upcoming 2010 national census, but posting all kinds of statistics regarding American households & families as well as “Business & Industry” economic indicators.

The National Small Business Association site at NSBA.biz is a tremendous advocacy group representing over 150,000 small businesses across America. They lobby for reforms that are National Small Business Associationadvantagous to small business owners and strive for fair taxes and affordable health benefits for American workers.

Business and government seem to be moving along parallel routes these days with government moving into, and taking over, certain elements of the private sector.  Government has always been inextricably tied to big business in the USA. .BIZ should have no problem fulfilling both roles in the years to some.

B2B.net Sells for $15,000

January 30th, 2009

b2bB2B.net just sold at Afternic.com for $15,000. B2B is a common abbreviation for Business-to-Business which is a term used to refer to commerce between manufacturers and wholesalers, or wholesalers and retailers. Both sides of a B2B transaction are always a business.

As a side note, B2BConsulting.com sold in 2007 for a modest $3388 (and appears to be used as a GoDaddy parking page currently).

A short, descriptive web address like B2B.net qualifies as a premium domain and could function well in the business community as a logical, easily recognized portal for business-to-business services. In an earlier sale concluded December 2007, BusinessAdvertising.net had been purchased for $3,429 (at SnapNames.com), and it looks to have been fully developed with content related directly to the key phrase: “business advertising”.
